Client Cleanup — ReShade Removed October 17, 2026
ReShade Is Out Of The Client Changed
- ReShade is no longer part of the Ghosts WoW install. Both loader DLLs, the preset and boot config, the logs and the full shader pack — 57 MB across 400+ files — have been removed from the client we ship.
- How the game renders is unchanged. The dgVoodoo2 D3D9→D3D11 wrapper (which is what lets a 2008 client run properly on a modern GPU) stays exactly as it was, along with its config. Only the post-processing overlay is gone.
- Nothing to re-download. The launcher's file list no longer contains those entries, so your next scan just stops looking for them — the rest of the client, patches and music are untouched.
- Prefer shaders? Drop your own ReShade into the game folder; the launcher simply won't manage or overwrite it any more.
What Stays Info
- dgVoodoo2 (
D3D9.dll+dgVoodoo.conf) — required for the client to render on current GPU drivers. - Native resolution and windowed/fullscreen settings — untouched.
- Everything server-side — no gameplay, class, loot or rate changes in this update.
Heirloom Scaling Fix September 23, 2026
Heirloom Stats Fixed
- Heirlooms now actually give stats and scale 1–80. The server's scaling data file was corrupt, so every heirloom — the Ghosts kit and the stock Dreadmist/Shadowcraft sets — silently rolled zero stats. Rebuilt with real per-level curves: a chest piece grows from a couple of stamina at level 1 to a full set of primaries at 80.
- All 29 kit items got correct scaling selectors. The kit previously carried a selector the game doesn't know, which multiplied every stat by zero even with perfect data behind it.
- Kit re-mailed, matched to each class. Cloth to casters, mail/plate to the plate classes — exactly one 8-piece set per character, stale duplicates removed.
- Tooltips match reality. The client now ships the same scaling table the server uses, so item tooltips show the real numbers before you equip.
Patch Download Expected
- Your next scan re-downloads patch-4 (~1.2 GB) once. The heirloom data files were merged into the existing music patch instead of replacing it, so a single patch-4 now carries both — your game music stays intact and the new stats data arrives with it. One re-download, nothing else changes.
Client Patch Delivery Fixed
- Patch-manifest case collision resolved. The manifest listed
patch-4.mpqandpatch-4.MPQ— the same filename on Windows — which could make the launcher flip-flop between a 1.2 GB archive and a 4.9 MB one on every scan. Music and heirloom data now ship as one mergedpatch-4.mpq; the duplicate entry is gone. - Local installs are updated in place — the stale uppercase twin is removed automatically so only the merged patch remains.
Launch Update September 21, 2026
Heirloom System New
- 8-piece Ghosts heirloom set mailed to all existing characters. Head, shoulders, chest, legs, sword, dagger, trinket, and ring — all scale from level 1 to 80 with stats that grow as you level.
- Heirloom XP bonus remains active — wearing the full set gives a significant leveling boost on top of the server's 10x XP rate.
- New characters receive heirlooms via the starter pack system.
Flying Mounts New
- Flying mount granted at character creation for all races. Loaned Wind Rider Reins (Horde) are mailed to every new character.
- Apprentice Riding (150% ground) and Journeyman Riding (280% flying) are trained automatically at creation.
- Existing characters also received a flying mount via mailbox.
All Classes, All Races New
- Every class is now available to every race. Want a Tauren Mage or an Undead Paladin? Go for it.
Quest Tracker Fixed
- Quest tracker enabled by default. Your active quests now appear on the minimap automatically.
Server Performance Tuning
- Worldserver shutdown time reduced from 2.5 minutes to 5 seconds. No more stale realm flags after restarts.
- Exception shutdown delay set to zero — fatal errors no longer cause extended downtime.
Death Knight Fixed
- Death Knights are now playable without leveling a standard character first. Create one directly at the character select screen.
- Death Knights start at level 55 in Ebon Hold with their full starting kit.
Leveling Guides Fixed
- Updated leveling guides now correctly note that the Dark Portal requires level 58 — no more confusing directions about Blasted Lands at level 50.
- Warlock and Death Knight guides available for download on the website.
